Silvio Berlusconi returns to draft new immunity laws
A month after he was attacked by a mentally disturbed man in Milan Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, today returned to Rome and immediately began work on new laws to save him from what he maintains are "politically motivated" corruption charges.
Mr Berlusconi and his aides calculate that a wave of public sympathy for him after the attack will enable them to push through laws giving him back his immunity from prosecution and shortening criminal trials to ensure that the cases against him run out of time. Both measures will be introduced in parliament this week.
