US and Russia sign nuclear pact
"A nuclear-free world"
That is what Barack Obama, the US president, has called for after Russia and the United States signed a new disarmament treaty on Thursdaythat legally binds the two countries to cut the number of nuclear warheads by 30 per cent over the next seven years.
Barack Obama, the US president, and Dmitry Medvedev, his Russian counterpart, have signed a landmark nuclear disarmament treaty in Prague, Czech Republic.
The agreement,which replaces the expired1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (Start), aims to limit the number of deployed warheads to 1,550 for each of the two countries.
The two leaders signed the agreement on Thursday at the Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle, the seat of the Czech presidency.
